Where to Place Ear Seeds: A Practitioner's Guide to the Points That Matter Most

People come to me holding the little gold dots between two fingers, unsure where they go.

That's the honest starting place. The seeds are simple. The map underneath them is not — but it was never meant to intimidate you.

As a licensed acupuncturist, placement is the question I'm asked most. So here is how I actually teach it — the points that matter, and why.

The ear is a map

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the outer ear is a microsystem — a small, dense map of points that correspond to the body and the nervous system. It's shaped, roughly, like a curled-up baby: the lobe relates to the head, the curves to the spine and organs.

You don't need to memorize all of it. Ear seeds are auricular acupressure — a smooth gold bead held against a point with clean, latex-free adhesive. No needles. No piercing. Each time you press, you send the point a small, repeatable signal. That's the whole mechanism: gentle pressure, repeated over days.

The five points I reach for most

  • Shen Men — "the spirit gate." The calming point, high in the triangular hollow near the top of the ear. My first choice for stress, overwhelm, and sleep.
  • Point Zero — the center of the ear, at the small ridge. Associated with balance and bringing the whole system back to baseline.
  • Heart — in the deep central bowl. Used for emotional ease and settling a racing mind.
  • Brain / Subcortex — on the lower ridge near the lobe. Reached for with focus, foggy days, and regulation.
  • Endocrine — low in the ear near the notch. Used to support hormonal balance.

If you only ever learn one, learn Shen Men. It carries most people a long way.

How to actually place them

  1. Start with a clean, dry ear — a quick swipe of alcohol, and let it dry fully so the adhesive holds.
  2. Lift a seed with clean tweezers or fingertips.
  3. Press it onto the point and hold for a few seconds so it seats.
  4. Through the day, press gently for a few breaths whenever you feel the need. That press is the treatment.

Our 24K Gold Ear Seeds come with a point chart, so you can find each one with confidence the first few times. After that, your fingers remember.

How long they stay

Leave a seed on for three to five days, then remove and reseed. If one loosens in the shower or overnight, replace it — there's no harm. This isn't about intensity. It's about the quiet consistency of returning to the point.

An honest note

Ear seeds are low-risk, non-invasive, and easy to build into a real life. They are not a substitute for medical care for anxiety, a sleep disorder, or a hormonal condition. Think of them as a daily, gentle tool — a way to give the nervous system a steady cue to settle.

Most people begin with The Foundations, our general starter set, then move toward targeted sets like Calm, Cool & Collected for stress. Apply, press through the day, reseed every few days. That's it.
